DPM acquired Ada Tepe in 2003 and spent over 15 years in planning and development, in order to receive environmental approvals and earn the social license of the project. We devoted significant efforts to engage with local stakeholders and address community and environmental concerns. This included the design and development of the Integrated Mine Waste Facility, which is the first of its kind in Europe. This innovative approach to tailings management stores tailings and waste rock within a specialized facility, which significantly reduces the mine’s overall footprint.
The mine’s construction was completed in 2019 on time and under budget, with a three-month ramp-up to full production. This remarkable achievement is a credit to our team’s dedication to sustainability, and to their years of engagement with local communities and authorities.
How we aim to achieve our corporate purpose - unlocking resources and generating value to thrive and grow together - is nowhere more evident than at Ada Tepe, where the region’s improved economic outlook is bringing previous residents back home. The area now enjoys Bulgaria’s highest population and income growth.
